Indian athlete Neha Thakur emerged as the silver medalist.
India bolstered its medal count on the third day of the 2023 Asian Games in Huangzhou, thanks to the impressive performance of young sailor Neha Thakur in the girl's dinghy ILCA-4 event. Her achievement marked India's first medal in the sport during the 19th Asian Games.
But who exactly is Neha Thakur?
According to media reports Neha hails from the quaint village of Amlataj, located in Hatpipalia Tehsil, Dewas district, and is the daughter of a farmer in Madhya Pradesh. In March of the previous year, Neha Thakur, alongside Ritika Dangi, secured a bronze and gold medal, respectively, at the Asian Sailing Championship in Abu Dhabi. These remarkable victories paved their way to qualify for the Asian Games.
A rising star from the National Sailing School in Bhopal, Neha amassed a total of 32 points, yet her net score of 27 ultimately earned her the second position, just behind the gold medalist, Noppassorn Khunboonjan from Thailand.
Neha Thakur's outstanding representation for India in the Girl's Dinghy - ILCA 4 category is a commendable feat. Heartfelt congratulations on clinching the SILVER MEDAL at the #AsianGames2022. A promising start, considering this marks India's inaugural medal in Sailing! #Cheer4India #JeetegaBharat
