1 Dec, (VNI) In a momentous achievement that blends tradition and personal dedication, Smita Srivastava, a 46-year-old woman hailing from Uttar Pradesh, India, has officially entered the prestigious Guinness World Records for possessing the longest hair on a living person.
Smita's incredible journey began at the age of 14 when she decided to let her hair grow without trimming. Fast-forward to today, her lustrous tresses have reached an astonishing length of 7 feet and 9 inches, earning her a well-deserved spot in the record books.
Inspired by the iconic long hairstyles flaunted by Hindi actresses in the 1980s, Smita's commitment to maintaining her hair reflects a cultural reverence for the significance of long hair in Indian tradition.
"In Indian culture, goddesses traditionally had very long hair. In our society, it is considered inauspicious to cut hair, so that is why women used to grow hair," Smita explained. "Long hair enhances the beauty of women."
Guinness World Records reports that Smita follows a meticulous hair care routine, washing her hair twice a week. The entire process, encompassing washing, drying, detangling, and styling, consumes up to three hours each time. She ingeniously detangles her hair on a sheet laid out on her bed, a practice indicative of the dedication she exhibits.
