Akshay Kumar Attains Indian Citizenship on the Day of Independence

15 Aug, (VNI) Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, who frequently encountered disapproval for his status as a Canadian citizen, has been granted Indian citizenship on the 77th commemoration of the nation's independence. "Dil aur citizenship, dono Hindustani. Happy Independence Day! Jai Hind!," exclaimed Akshay Kumar on X, formerly known as Twitter, while sharing the authentication document. Akshay Kumar had formerly expressed a sense of letdown when his patriotic sentiments were questioned. "India holds an unmatched significance for me... All my achievements, all my gains stem from this land. I'm fortunate to contribute in return. It's disheartening when baseless notions are thrown around...," shared Mr. Kumar during a conversation with the Aajtak news network. His application for Indian citizenship was lodged in 2019; however, the progression encountered delays attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr. Kumar's Canadian citizenship came under scrutiny following an exchange with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "The notion of altering my passport hadn't occurred to me initially, but presently, I've initiated the process to amend my passport and anticipate acquiring the status of relinquishing Canadian citizenship...." he expressed.
