Every year on December 17, the United States commemorates the Wright Brothers. The day marks the first successful heavier-than-air flights in a mechanically driven aeroplane. Orville and Wilbur Wright, also known as "the Wright brothers," built the planes near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, in 1903.
