18 Jan (VNI) : Wings India 2024, Asia's largest civil aviation event, kicked off at Hyderabad's Begumpet airport on January 18. The inauguration by Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia marked the beginning of a four-day event focused on commercial, general, and business aviation.
Organized jointly by the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation, Airports Authority of India, and Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Wings India 2024 aims to showcase India's strength in the aviation sector. Positioned as the world's third-largest civil aviation market, the event brings together business leaders, policymakers, and industry professionals.
The extensive itinerary includes an inaugural ceremony, global ministerial conference, global CEOs' forum, B2B/B2G meetings, awards ceremony, cultural evening, and a business networking dinner. Anticipated participation involves 1,500 delegates from 106 countries and 5,000 business visitors, comprising aerospace engineers, airlines, airport agencies, operators, civil aviation authorities, policymakers, and government officials.
Key highlights include Akasa Air's monumental deal for 150 Boeing 737 Max planes, making it the first Indian airline to order over 200 aircraft. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will unveil the Hindustan-228 aircraft and an upgraded Dhruv helicopter, emphasizing India's commitment to indigenous aircraft manufacturing.
The event also features an airshow by the Sarang team of the Indian Air Force, displaying precision and skill. Air India's A350, India's first aircraft of its kind, and the debut of Boeing 777 X in India will be notable attractions, showcasing the industry's continuous pursuit of innovation.
