Ms.Pooja Sharma, Chairperson, Sikkim Film Promotion Board, told reporters today in a press conference that the State Government has launched Sikkim Film Policy last year to attract filmmakers from different walks of life. She stated that this five day gala event will have movie screening, producers and investors meet, masterclass with regional film technical experts, cultural programmes,and art performances. She said " Chief Minister Mr. Prem Singh Tamang has always given importance to the promotion of Sikkim as a Film Shooting destination, Film Tourism Destination and to provide ample opportunities to the film makers and artist of the State as well as the country." Event programmes will be held at Eco- Heritage Film Village site at Yangang, South Sikkim and Tsogmo Lake, where all participants will also have feel of beautiful scenic beauty of sikkim while views film programmes .It will be also an unique opportunity for local population to view their own cinema besides viewing national and international films.
Sikkim Public Relations Department advisor Birendra Tamling was also present at the press conference.he said " I am sure film makers will find Sikkim as a most beautiful and favourable place for film making, "
Ms. Sharma said the entries are open in five categories -- Feature Film Screening, Tribal and Regional Film competition, Short Film Competition, 1 Minute video competition - theme: Global peace, and 5 Minute video competition - battling the pandemic.
For submissions of the movie interested parties may log in to www.sikkimfilmboard.org till November 15.
All films entering the competitive categories must carry English subtitles. Films not certified by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) can also be submitted and the run time of short films should not exceed 30 minutes,informed Ms Sharma.
To encourage the filmmakers to make films in the state, Sikkim government, would provide a subsidy of Rs 20 lakhs in cash and kind to the local filmmakers and a subsidy of Rs 1 crore in cash and kind would be given to the national film makers, added the chairperson.
