New Delhi 25 June (VNI) A Delhi-based techie recently made headlines when a package he had ordered from the now-banned Chinese online retail service Ali Express finally arrived after a staggering four-year delay. The incident left Twitter users astounded and puzzled, prompting widespread discussion and speculation.

The techie, identified as Nitin Agarwal, had placed the order back in 2019, unaware that Ali Express would soon face a ban in India. Taking to Twitter, Agarwal shared a photo of the long-awaited package, accompanied by a message of resilience: "Never lose hope! So, I ordered this from Ali Express (now banned in India) back in 2019 and the parcel was delivered today." The image showcased a package adorned with Chinese captions, serving as a stark reminder of the passage of time.

The tweet quickly gained traction, accumulating 43.4K views and 690 likes. Supporters congratulated Agarwal on finally receiving his package, despite the substantial delay. However, some playful remarks surfaced, urging him to check the expiry date of the product, while others jokingly speculated that his grandkids might inherit the awaited item. One Twitter user even quipped about their own unreceived order from 2018, emphasizing the relatability of such prolonged delays.

This incident serves as a poignant reminder of the lasting impact of political decisions on everyday life. It takes on added significance due to the ban imposed on Ali Express and other Chinese apps in India. In 2020, the Indian government banned a total of 54 Chinese apps, including Ali Baba, TikTok, Shareit, and Mi Community, citing concerns regarding national security, defense, and public order. The ban further strained diplomatic ties between the two nations, which were already tense following a skirmish in 2020 that led to casualties among the armed forces.

Agarwal's long-overdue package not only captivated Twitter users but also underscored the underlying tensions between India and China. It shed light on the broader implications of geopolitical conflicts in the realm of e-commerce and consumer experiences. The incident serves as a reminder that political decisions can have far-reaching consequences, impacting individuals and businesses alike.
