New Delhi, 06 Aug, (VNI) Introducing the ULLAS App: Empowering Drop-out Students through New India Literacy Programme
The ULLAS initiative has set its sights on a noble goal—to reintegrate over 12 lakh drop-out students and those who missed out on formal education into the education system under the New India Literacy Programme.
During the prestigious Akhil Bhartiya Siksha Samgam (ABSS) event, the Union Minister of Education and Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, unveiled the logo and slogan, "Jan Jan Sakshar," along with the mobile application of ULLAS: Nav Bharat Saksharta Karyakram. This event took place at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on July 30.
But what exactly is the ULLAS app? It's an acronym for "Understanding Lifelong Learning for All in Society," an initiative aiming to transform the educational landscape by bridging gaps in basic literacy and vital life skills. The app facilitates access to fundamental education, digital and financial literacy, and essential life skills for individuals aged 15 and above who missed out on formal schooling. The implementation relies on the dedication of volunteers.
ULLAS, a beacon of adult education, is part of the newly approved centrally-sponsored scheme, the 'New India Literacy Programme,' covering all aspects of 'Education For All' (previously referred to as Adult Education). This scheme aligns with the National Education Policy 2020 and Budget Announcements FY 2021-22, which emphasize increasing access to online resources. The program aims to introduce a range of online modules to cater to the diverse needs of adult learners.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan expressed his excitement about the ULLAS mobile application, which harnesses technology to promote basic literacy on a large scale. The user-friendly and interactive app is available on both Android and iOS platforms and serves as a digital gateway to various learning resources through the DIKSHA portal of NCERT.
The app offers multiple registration options, allowing learners and volunteers to join either through self-registration or by assistance from surveyors. ULLAS has a strong focus on functional literacy, vocational skills, and essential life skills, including financial literacy, legal literacy, and digital literacy. It aims to empower citizens to actively participate in nation-building. Moreover, it nurtures a culture of continuous learning and knowledge-sharing within communities across India.
The new logo and slogan, "ULLAS: Nav Bharat Saksharta Karyakram," radiate the spirit of the campaign, symbolizing the spread of knowledge like a beacon of light, empowering citizens with education, and sparking curiosity and a thirst for learning in every individual, ultimately leading to a nation of educated individuals—Jan Jan Sakshar.
