01 AUG, (VNI) In a notable event from the southern region of India, a group of eleven hardworking women hailing from Kerala, all engaged in municipal duties, jointly secured a substantial prize of Rs 10 crore through the state government's 2023 Monsoon Bumper lottery. These women, who are primarily responsible for collecting non-biodegradable waste from households in the town of Parappanangadi, located in Kerala's Malappuram district, usually earn a modest daily income of Rs 250 for their efforts. However, they decided to pool together Rs 25 each to invest in a 250-rupee ticket for the special monsoon bumper prize lottery held in June of that year.
The group belongs to a responsible organization named "Haritha Karma Sena," which specializes in the collection of non-biodegradable waste from both residential and commercial establishments. The waste is later processed in shredding units for the purpose of recycling. Interestingly, this is not the first time they've participated in such a lottery endeavor, as they had previously experienced success with an Onam bumper, securing a prize of Rs 1000.
It's important to note that Kerala has a unique lottery program run by the government called "Kerala State Lotteries," which has garnered significant attention as the first of its kind in India. Although private lotteries are prohibited in the region, the government's program continues to flourish, drawing public interest.
As reported by a trusted source, the remarkable aspect of this heartwarming story is that despite their newfound wealth, the dedicated women from Haritha Karma Sena remain committed to their sanitation jobs in Parappanangadi. They value their contribution to the cleanliness of the area and have expressed their intention to continue their noble work even after their lottery win. This dedication has earned them admiration and respect from the local community and authorities.
Following the deduction of applicable taxes, each of these commendable women is expected to receive around Rs 63.6 lakh from their winnings. This substantial sum is set to bring a positive change to their lives and the lives of their loved ones.
Upon further inquiry, it was revealed that these inspiring women have uplifting plans for the lottery prize. Ms. Baby, aged 62, intends to utilize her winnings to reconstruct her house that was tragically washed away during the devastating floods that struck Kerala in 2018. Meanwhile, K Bindu, aged 50, has her eyes set on using the money to support her 15-year-old daughter's education, with the aspiration of securing her a promising future. Additionally, Leela, aged 56, has noble intentions to allocate the funds towards her daughter's much-needed surgery.
The heartwarming story of these dedicated women has touched the hearts of many, earning appreciation from Parappanangadi Municipality Chairman A Usman, who praised their commitment and strong work ethic. Their victory in the lottery stands as a testament to their perseverance and will undoubtedly inspire others to follow in their footsteps.
