New Delhi, 10 July, (VNI) Rinku Singh, who was not selected for the West Indies T20Is, showcased a thrilling performance in the Duleep Trophy. Representing Central Zone in the semi-final against West Zone, Rinku Singh injected some artificial excitement into the match. Despite the target being nearly impossible, Rinku went on a rampage against the West Zone bowlers before lunch, smashing a quickfire 40 off just 30 balls. His assault included five consecutive sixes against Yash Dayal of Gujarat Titans during the IPL 2023 season.
One of the victims of Rinku's aggression was Central Zone's left-arm spinner Dharmendra Jadeja, who bore the brunt of two massive sixes, with one of them even sailing beyond the stadium. However, the pressure of the scoreboard eventually got to Rinku, and he was caught by Arzan Nagwaswalla in the deep, concluding his entertaining innings.
Rinku had also made a valuable contribution in the first innings, scoring 48 runs off 69 balls to help Central Zone surpass the 100-run mark. Nevertheless, despite his efforts, it was West Zone who advanced to the final by virtue of a crucial first innings lead, as the match ended in a draw.
There are reports suggesting that Rinku may receive a call-up to the Indian team for the upcoming three T20Is against Ireland next month. Meanwhile, the final of the Duleep Trophy 2023 will be contested between West Zone and South Zone, with the latter having convincingly defeated North Zone in the other semi-final.
