Champion of Cultural, spiritual Understanding Dr. Modi"s major boost to Jain Studies at US University

LA, California, United States, December 9 (VNI) Meet distinguished Indian-origin gastroenterologist and philanthropist Dr. Jaswant Modi, through his unwavering commitment to medicine and humanitarian endeavors, Dr.  Modi embodies the fusion of medical excellence and Jain ethics, striving to make a positive impact on society.  In a landmark gesture, Dr. Jasvant Modi, along with his wife Dr. Meera Modi, has generously donated a substantial amount of $800,000 to California State University, Northridge (CSUN). The funds are specifically designated to support the 2nd Teeranthkar, Bhagvan Ajitnath Endowed Professorship in Jain Studies within the Department of Religious Studies, College of Humanities.
  While explaining  this  gesture he said  "Establishing a professorship at CSUN is a significant step towards educating others about Jainism's teachings of nonviolence, non-possessiveness and plurality, which are the basics of society" 
The endowment aims to create and sustain courses focusing on the core principles of Jainism. Dr. Jasvant Modi, who was born into a Jain family, expressed his deep connection to his heritage and his commitment to spreading knowledge about Jainism's fundamental values.As another prominent Indian Origin Technocrate Dr. Sulekh Jain said "  Dr. Modi's visionary support enriches CSUN, fostering cultural understanding through Jain studies for a brighter, peaceful  and a future which is tension free.
 Dr. Modi, while making donation announcement said "I am proud of my heritage and the key principles Jainism embodies,"  He further added "Establishing a professorship at CSUN is a significant step towards educating others about Jainism's teachings of nonviolence, non-possessiveness, and plurality." 

CSUN, with its commitment to building an enlightened and inclusive society, sees this initiative as a significant contribution to exposing students to diverse cultures and faiths. The endowed professorship will focus on teaching the religions of Southeast Asia, with a special emphasis on Jainism. The Modis' substantial donation not only underscores their commitment to higher education and Jain studies but also serves as an inspiration for the Jain community.

Dr. Jasvant Modi, born in Godhra, India, in 1951, is a highly skilled gastroenterologist who completed his medical education at B.J. Medical College. After immigrating to the United States in 1975, he completed his residency in Chicago, Illinois, and later moved to Los Angeles, dedicating himself to his medical career and philanthropic endeavors.

Passionate about spreading the faith of Jainism through educational and medical work, both in the United States and their home country of India, Dr. Modi and his wife, Meera, have played a pivotal role in the acquisition and development of four small hospitals. These institutions have become vital support systems for their respective communities. Dr. Modi's significant contributions and unwavering support also make him a valued partner in the University of Birmingham's Jainism Studies and Research program. The Modis' donation stands as a testament to their dedication to higher education, cultural understanding, and the promotion of Jain values on a global scale.VNI
