New Delhi 12 November (VNI) Vikram Misri, an officer of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) from the 1989 batch, has been granted an extension as Foreign Secretary beyond his original retirement date of November 30, 2024. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved this extension, allowing him to remain in the position until July 14, 2026, or until further notice, according to official announcement through notification by Manisha Saxena, Secretary of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet & Establishment Officer.
Misri assumed the role of Foreign Secretary on July 15, 2024, following his tenure as Deputy National Security Advisor from January to June 2024. He succeeded Vinay Mohan Kwatra, who is now India's Ambassador to the United States.
With a distinguished career in foreign affairs, including a significant period as India’s Ambassador to China, Misri brings a wealth of experience to his current position. This extension ensures continuity in India’s diplomatic efforts, further strengthening his leadership during a period of rapid global geopolitical shifts.
