Jaikishan Dayabhai Panchal was one half of the legendary music director duo Shankar-Jaikishan, which transformed Hindi film music during the 1950s and 1960s. Born in Gujarat, Jaikishan developed a deep passion for music and went on to create memorable melodies with Shankar Singh Raghuvanshi. Together, they composed music for several successful Hindi films and worked with leading singers, lyricists and filmmakers of their era. Their compositions beautifully blended Indian classical music with Western influences and became hugely popular among audiences. Jaikishan’s contribution to Indian cinema remains significant, with many of his melodies continuing to be remembered and cherished. He died on 12 September 1971 in Bombay, Maharashtra, India.
