Vinayak Narahar Bhave, popularly known as Vinoba Bhave, was born on 11 September 1895 in Maharashtra. He was an Indian philosopher, social reformer, freedom fighter and a strong advocate of nonviolence and human rights. Deeply influenced by Mahatma Gandhi, Vinoba Bhave became one of his close followers and was often regarded as Gandhi’s spiritual successor. He dedicated his life to social service, rural development and promoting equality. He is best remembered for the Bhoodan Movement, or Land Gift Movement, through which he encouraged wealthy landowners to voluntarily donate land to landless farmers. His simple life, spiritual outlook and commitment to nonviolence earned him the title Acharya.
