New Delhi 26 November (VNI) Every year on November 26, India observes Samvidhan Diwas, or Constitution Day, to honor the adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1949. This pivotal event marked the foundation of India as an independent republic. While January 26 celebrates the day the Constitution came into force, November 26 signifies the moment when the vision for shaping the nation’s future was debated and set in motion.

In 2024, we are proudly celebrating the 75th Samvidhan Diwas, a significant milestone that highlights the enduring legacy of this monumental document. The Constitution, crafted under the leadership of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, often referred to as the "chief architect," is far more than a legal document—it is a guiding force for the nation's life and progress. Dr. Ambedkar eloquently expressed, "The Constitution is not just a lawyer's document; it is the instrument of life and epitomizes its enduring importance."

In 2015, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment formally established Constitution Day to promote public understanding of the Constitution's values. Before this, the day was observed as Law Day, emphasizing its legal importance.

Constitution Day serves as a reminder of the unwavering commitment of the Constituent Assembly members to unity, progress, and participation in India. It celebrates the nation's values of governance, culture, tradition, and freedom. On this day, citizens are encouraged to engage in the democratic process, strengthening their commitment to justice, equality, and harmony.

Beyond remembrance, Constitution Day is a call to action, urging citizens to actively contribute to building a more just, inclusive, and harmonious society.
