New Delhi, 09 july, (VNI) India's Priyansh made headlines in the world of archery as he clinched the under-21 world champion title in compound archery at the ongoing World Archery Youth Championships held in Ireland. In a one-sided men's individual final, Priyansh showcased his skills and defeated Aljaz Brenk from Slovenia with a score of 147-141. This remarkable victory contributed to India's growing medal tally, which now stands at nine medals, including five gold.
The match between Priyansh and Brenk started off with an intense opening round, as the former Under-18 world champion Brenk matched Priyansh's score of 29. However, Priyansh maintained his composure and delivered a perfect round of 30, leaving the Slovenian archer crumbling under pressure after a promising start. With a three-point advantage after the second end, Priyansh continued to build on his lead, reaching a score of 118-112 before entering the fifth and final round.
The match concluded in a similar fashion to how it began, with both archers shooting a score of 29 each. However, this was enough for Priyansh to claim the coveted under-21 world title in the compound section. His consistent performance and ability to handle the pressure throughout the match were commendable, solidifying his position as a rising star in the world of archery.
Meanwhile, in the women's under-18 category, Aditi Swami added to India's medal haul by securing the title. Aditi displayed dominance from the first end of the match, ultimately defeating Leann Drake from the USA with a score of 142-136. This victory marked India's fourth gold medal in the tournament. Aditi's success comes on the back of her recent achievement in breaking the under-18 compound women's qualifying record at last month's World Cup. Her exceptional form and consistency have propelled her to new heights in her archery career.
It is worth noting that Aditi has already showcased her talent on international stages. Making her senior debut at the World Cup, she had previously won a team bronze in Medellin, Colombia, last month. Additionally, Aditi secured an individual silver medal at the Asia Cup Leg 3 held in Sharjah last year, further solidifying her position as a formidable archer.
While India celebrated the successes of Priyansh and Aditi, the hopes for another medal on that day were dashed when Avneet Kaur faced disappointment in a shoot-off against Hallie Boulton from Great Britain. After a tied score of 138-all, Hallie narrowly edged out Avneet, winning the shoot-off with a score of 10-9. Despite the setback, India's overall performance in the tournament has been commendable, with a total of nine medals to their name, including one silver and three bronze.
The achievements of Priyansh and Aditi, along with the overall success of the Indian archery team, reflect the country's growing prominence in the sport. These victories serve as a testament to the talent and dedication of young Indian archers who are making their mark on the international stage. With their exceptional skills and achievements, they inspire future generations of archers and bring pride to the nation.
