New Delhi, 23 Jan (VNI) : Annually, on January 23, India experiences a notable surge of national pride, marking the observance of Parakram Diwas. This significant day is dedicated to reflecting upon the life and contributions of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, a distinguished figure in India's quest for independence. The nomenclature "Parakram Diwas," denoting the "Day of Valor," underscores the gravity of the occasion and warrants a closer examination of its historical context and the profound legacy associated with Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. The decision to officially designate January 23rd as Parakram Diwas was undertaken by the government of India in 2021. This strategic move aimed at commemorating Netaji Subash Chandra Bose's 124th birth anniversary and recognizing his unwavering commitment to India's struggle for independence. The term Parakram Diwas, translating to "Day of Valor" or "Day of Courage," holds particular significance in acknowledging and honoring the enduring legacy of Netaji, serving as an inspiration for future generations. Born on January 23, 1897, in Cuttack, Odisha, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose emerged as a distinguished leader with an unwavering dedication to India's freedom. His early education in Cuttack set the stage for subsequent studies at Scottish Church College and Presidency College in Calcutta. Despite facing expulsion in 1916 due to nationalist activities, Bose's resolve remained unswerving. In 1921, having excelled in the Indian Civil Service examination in England, Bose chose to return to India, driven by a profound passion for the nation's independence. Aligned with the Indian National Congress, he ascended rapidly through its ranks, becoming the president of the All India Youth Congress in 1923. His charismatic leadership culminated in the presidency of the Indian National Congress in 1938 and 1939, during which he diligently worked to fortify the party and garner support for the freedom struggle. In 1939, Bose founded the Forward Bloc within the Congress, seeking to unite anti-colonial forces against British rule. Against the backdrop of World War II, he established the Indian National Army in 1942, playing a pivotal role in India's fight for independence and capturing the nation's imagination through conflicts against British forces. Parakram Diwas holds immense significance in honoring the courage and determination of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. It serves as a poignant reminder of his unwavering spirit and selfless service to the nation. The observance of this day aspires to inspire Indians, particularly the youth, to emulate his bravery, perseverance, and patriotic fervor in the face of adversity. Netaji's leadership of the Indian National Army and his establishment of the Azad Hind Government exemplify his commitment to the cause of freedom. Parakram Diwas encourages individuals to embrace these values and actively contribute to the realization of a more robust, united, and independent India.
