Sir Surendranath Banerjee (10 November 1848 – 6 August 1925), popularly known as Rashtraguru (Teacher of the Nation), was one of India's earliest nationalist leaders and a pioneer of the freedom movement. He inspired political awareness through his speeches, writings, and public service, encouraging Indians to demand equal rights and self-governance. Banerjee co-founded the Indian National Association, which later merged with the Indian National Congress, helping shape the national movement. A distinguished educator and journalist, he believed in constitutional reforms, education, and national unity.
