Advertising visionary Sylvester daCunha, creator of the beloved 'Amul girl' campaign, has passed away

New Delhi 22 June (VNI) Sylvester daCunha, the genius behind the legendary 'Amul Girl' campaign that originated in the 1960s, has passed away, as confirmed by the Gujarat-based milk cooperative that owns the Amul brand. Jayen Mehta, the Managing Director of Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), expressed his condolences, announcing the sad demise of Sylvester daCunha, the Chairman of daCunha Communications, on Tuesday night in Mumbai.

Sylvester daCunha conceptualized the renowned 'Utterly Butterly' campaign for Amul in 1966, introducing the world to the iconic 'Amul Girl,' a character that remains popular to this day. Rahul daCunha, Sylvester daCunha's son, now leads the advertising agency established by his father.

Numerous tributes poured in for Sylvester daCunha, with Jairam Ramesh, a senior Congress leader, recalling that V Kurien, the iconic leader of Amul, had acknowledged Sylvester daCunha's creative genius. Derek O'Brien, Trinamool Congress MP, referred to Sylvester daCunha as an advertising legend in a condolence message shared on Twitter.
