New Delhi 16 June (VNI) Mr. Philip Green OAM has been appointed as Australia's new High Commissioner to India, as announced by Foreign Minister Penny Wong. This significant appointment not only reinforces the ties between India and Australia but also emphasizes the interconnectedness of both nations, with the High Commissioner to India also being accredited to Bhutan.
Minister Wong emphasized the robust relationship between Australia and India, highlighting their shared perspectives, challenges, and democratic values. Their collaboration is evident through their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and their active participation in the Quad, aiming to foster a harmonious and prosperous Indo-Pacific region while upholding principles of sovereignty.
The economic alliance between Australia and India was highlighted as mutually advantageous, with plans to further expand cooperation through an ambitious Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement. Minister Wong expressed confidence in the deepening collaboration in defense and security matters, reaffirming the commitment of both nations to each other's interests.
Mr. Green's previous diplomatic roles as Australia's Ambassador to Germany, as well as his service as High Commissioner to Singapore, South Africa, and Kenya, underscore his expertise in navigating intricate international relations and further reinforce his suitability for this new position.
