World's largest green energy park:Adani's Khavda project

New Delhi 28 April 2024 (VNI)The largest renewable energy park globally is under construction by Adani Green Energy Limited in Khavda, Gujarat, in the Kutch district. This expansive park covers an area of 538 square kilometers, making it approximately five times larger than Paris, the capital of France. This development is set to revolutionize the renewable energy sector in India.

The Indian government is overseeing the construction of the world’s largest renewable energy park in Gujarat. The Khavda Renewable Energy Park is being established in the Rann of Kutch, spanning an area of 726 square kilometers.

Rann of Kutch, an inhospitable salt marsh, is situated at least 70 km away from the nearest human settlement. However, the site is in close proximity to the India-Pakistan border.

Once completed, the project will be comparable in size to Singapore. There are reports suggesting that the park will be so extensive that it will be observable from space. Moreover, the project is estimated to cost $2.26 billion.

The Khavda Renewable energy plant is projected to generate 30 GW of clean energy, which will be sufficient to power approximately 18 million homes.

Adani Green is responsible for constructing 20 gigawatts (GW) of the project’s capacity. Additionally, Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL) and National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) will also participate in developing a significant portion of the capacity.

Currently, workers are laying pillars at the site for the installation of solar panels. They are also in the process of constructing substations and laying down wiring. The project is scheduled to be completed in 3 years.

India is currently home to the world’s largest solar park, the Bhadla Solar Park. Once this project is finalized, it will contribute significantly to India's goal of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
